These images dramatically illustrate the
difference between shape and shaping - the difference between the
underlying geometry of a 3D scene and its outward visual appearance.
The first image has been rendered using a variety of mapping and lighting
techniques, for example, texture, transparency and displacement mapping.
Despite its apparent sophistication, the scene is, infact, constructed from
only a few primitive surfaces. The second image, rendered with mapping
turned off, clearly illustrates the scenes geometric simplicity.
